Pl. Speech - New Opportunities In A Changing Global Policy Environment

What will the policy drivers of the agri food sectors be in the next twenty years? How have these changed and what are the opportunities arising from these changes? How can research education, innovation and technology transfer respond in order to ensure that these opportunities are grasped?

Note: Policy in the EU and other developed countries is no longer dictated by the need to restrict production. Demand for crops for energy production is likely to be very significant. Developments in science and technology have the potential to dramatically impact on food production. These, together with climate change and the economic progress being made in developing countries present a tremendous challenge to those involved in the provision of research, education and innovation services for the agri food sector.
