PR - PROMOTION OF LOCAL AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD PRODUCTS BY USING GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS AND TRADITIONAL SPECIALTIES GUARANTEED SCHEMES IN HUNGARY
Abstract:
In the European Union three schemes of geographical indications and traditional specialties has been established to promote and protect names of quality agricultural products and foodstuff:(1) protected designation of origin (PDO), (2) protected geographical indication (PGI), and traditional specialties guaranteed (TSG).This is based on the legal framework provided by the EU Regulation No 1151/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 November 2012 on quality schemes for agricultural products and foodstuffs (Food Safety Authority of Ireland, 2003).
As precedents in 1998 Hungary’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) launched a national project, Traditions – Tastes – Regions (TTR, the Hungarian acronym is HÍR meaning “News” in Hungarian) based on learning lesson from the best practices of European Union’s Euroterroirs program.
